The first year of the Skoda Cycle Series in Sligo over the weekend went off without a hitch. Hundreds registered long before the event with many more riders showing up at the launch on Friday at local Skoda dealership, Burns Car Sales, for the 'Pasta & Power Up'.

The night included a fantastic DJ, delicious carb-up food for the cycle ahead, prizes, samples and Irish celebrities. Bike mechanics and sports physiotherapists were also on-site to answer any questions.

The event hosted two courses suiting all levels – one at 50k and the other at 100k. The route took the large group around the most beautiful areas of Sligo including the Ox Mountains, spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean, the beautiful village of Ballysadare, and up and over to the unforgettable sea views from Aughris Head and Dunmoran Strand.

Model and DJ Vogue Williams, and her sister Amber, enjoyed the 100k course in style while getting in a bit of fitness. Irish comedian Karl Spain also came out to support the Cycle Series and rode the 100k route.

Skoda has long-standing connections with cycling; the company itself, which was founded more than 100 years ago, started out making bicycles.

Worldwide, Skoda is a sponsor of the world's largest cycling race – the Tour de France.

The company is also involved with a number of other Irish cycling events including the upcoming Wicklow Sportive this Saturday, the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle and the Tour de Conamara.
