An Irish bride-to-be has thanked the tourist who captured the perfect photo of her and her fiancé in the moment of a lifetime.

Catherine Jordan took to Twitter to express her gratitude towards the tourist who managed to snap the epic shot of her and her boyfriend as he got down on one knee in the Aran Islands to ask her to marry him.

"Forever grateful to the tourist who took this spectacular picture of my boyfriend proposing on Dún Aengus, Inishmore on the wildatlanticway." Catherine wrote.

Groom-to-be Donal O'Neill planned a a surprise trip to Inishmore after work on Friday, with the unsuspecting Catherine having no idea what he had planned.

"We both love being outdoors exploring," the bride-to-be told THEVOW.ie, "especially by the ocean and cliffs. So he brought me to Dún Aengus and surprised me with the question then."

The photo was snapped by a passer by as Donal dropped to one knee to pop the question, however due to the excitement, the couple failed to catch the man's name.

"It's a fabulous photo," said Catherine, "we had no idea he was taking it."

"We were having some lunch later that day and he approached us in the restaurant and said he got a photo so sent it to me. I think he was from America. We never even got his name, we were so wrapped up in the whirlwind of the day."

However the lucky bride says the photo will always be treasured.
