Former RTE broadcaster Michael Murphy has news for you - he's getting married to partner of 33 years
He read the news on the telly on RTE for 44 years.
So it is fitting, perhaps, that Michael Murphy has himself some news for the nation. This Friday, he will marry his soulmate Terry O’Sullivan at the Herbert Park Hotel in Ballsbridge in front of 70 of their nearest and dearest.
“We’ve been devoted to each other for the past 33 years, so when the people of Ireland generously voted for marriage equality, we decided to get married — to honour the vote certainly, but primarily because we love each other,” Michael told me, adding that the nuptials will start at 4.30pm. Michael and Terry’s witnesses are their friends, Barbara and Tiernan Quinn.
Another good pal of the couple’s is Dr Katherine Zappone, the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
She will launch Michael’s latest opus Book of Dreams on October 5 at Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street.
In the meantime, Michael and Terry — who run a psychoanalytic practice together in Sandyford — will have to think of a way to celebrate Michael’s 70th birthday this Sunday in their home.
Stay up til dawn comparing Dr Freud to Carl Jung and then on to Ludwig Wittgenstein and Wilhelm Reich, perchance?
