The Vow

Ah that age-old question...

How much should you really be spending on a wedding gift?

Well, according to the latest survey, just under 200 quid.

Sound about right?

A survey by One4All of 599 Irish adults has revealed that the average cost of a wedding gift is now €186, but that's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cost of attending a wedding on the emerald isle.

According to their results, wedding guests are shelling out €163 on a new outfit and accessories, €87 on drinks at the reception and €207 on accommodation.

That brings the total average cost of attending a wedding to €643.

Second helpings

Other results from the survey, which comprised 80% female and 20% male respondents, revealed that while few expected an open bar at the big day (3% of those polled thought the happy couple should fund their hydration during the celebrations) most did expect plenty to eat.

A massive 88% of those polled said they expected a sit down meal as part of the big day and 57% said they'd be looking for second helpings to be served again later in the evening.
