Real wedding: Dave and Sinead's colourful day at Marlfield House

Sinead and Dave's colourful tropical themed wedding was full of fabulous details

Dave and Sinead meet in 2013 in the Baggot Inn in Dublin, a place that neither usually frequented.

She was on a hen and he was at a birthday party.

As they walked past each other, Dave looked at Sinead, stopped in his tracks, and said, ‘I really like your dress.’ Sinead fell for the compliment and his soft Cork lilt. They went on a date three days later and that was it.

Two and a half years into their relationship, Dave flew Sinead to snowy Salzburg for the Christmas markets, where he proposed on their first night. Nine months later they tied the knot.

The Venue

"I always envisioned getting married outside in the sun and when I found Marfield House in the Blue Book, its glass conservatory caught my eye," said Sinead. "Once there it’s like stepping in to another world."

"When we went to view it and walked in to the stunning conservatory where dinner would be held I shed a tear, and that was that! We knew it was the one."

The Day

Although it rained for days before the wedding, Sinead and Dave stuck to our plans to get married outside.

"It was cloudy while we getting ready but as I walked out to the altar the clouds parted and sun shone all afternoon!"

The Stand-out Moment

The couple's favourite part of the day was the ceremony. "It was beautiful and relaxed with the sun shining and the Dublin African Gospel choir singing."

The First Dance

Sinead and Dave's first dance as a married couple was to BeeGees’ More Than a Woman.

The Style

"I was conscious that couples can go overboard and spend a lot of time on personal touches that go completely unnoticed or unappreciated by guests. So I focused on the things that would make most impact. I wanted colour and a lush, tropical theme: aside from the flowers, I did all the decor with the help of amazing friends."

"I think we were in the naughty book with Marfield for a while after the ceremony. I had confetti canons on each chairs which shot a blast of plastic colourful confetti into the air... great for photos but a nightmare to clean from gravel!"

The Stress

"Because we wanted to get married within eight or nine months I found it stressful choosing the venue, as they tend to book up really early. Once we’d seen Marfield House we took the date they had available."

The Dress

Sinead purchased her dress in B Couture Bridal in Arklow, Co. Wicklow.

"I tried on 10 before settling on a Spanish designer," said the bride. "Bernie at B Couture was amazing."

The Advice

"Entertainment is key to guests enjoying your wedding, so don’t scrimp on the band or DJ. This sets the tone for the whole night. Make sure you have music planned for the drinks reception too, even if this is just a playlist piped though speakers. Basically, you need music from start to finish."

The Honeymoon

The couple took a three week adventure tour of Australia, which they booked with Trailfinders.
