Real Wedding: Laura and Cian's epic day in Dublin
A trip to the Guinness Gate before canapés in Drury Buildings and a delicious dinner in Fallon & Byrne
Laura and Cian first met through mutual friends in 2012.
Although they barely knew one another, they ended up house-sharing as friends. “It was during this time that we both realised that there was lots of chemistry between us – although neither of us admitted it.”
Cian went travelling for a year, and while they stayed in touch sporadically, it wasn’t until a chance meeting two years later that “Cian got his act together” and planned a date. “Things clearly escalated quickly. We were engaged seven months later!”
The wedding day was celebration of their love, and of the city they call home.
The bride spent the morning getting ready with her girls in Kelly's Hotel, beside Hogan's on Georges Street, before catching a taxi to the ceremony at St. Catherine's Church on Thomas Street. From there they took a detour on horse and carriage to grab some snaps with the bridal party outside an iconic St. James' Gate.
From there the couple took a stroll to the colourful Drury Buildings, where guests munched on canapés and had the chats, before the 120 strong wedding party made their way to Fallon & Byrne, where the food may have only come a close second to the speeches!
Their wedding was shot by Rob Dight of Epic Love Photography (and epic photography it was indeed!)
The couple 'flirted' with the idea of getting married in the west of Ireland initially, but after toying with the idea, decided instead to hold the wedding in Dublin. "We love the city and call it home," said Laura.
Laura got ready the morning of the wedding in Kelly's Hotel, looking out on the beautiful buildings that line George's Street in the heart of the city. The couple tied the knot in St. Catherine's Church on Thomas Street, before heading to their reception venue(s).
"We chose Drury Buildings and Fallon & Byrne for the food! We love our food and wine so that was always going to be a priority for us. We had canapés in Drury Buildings first. Both venues fitted with the relaxed, informal vibe that we wanted for the day."
The couple put a lot of effort into the details, from the stationery to the table settings. A close friend acted as their celebrant, making the ceremony all the more personal.
"The whole wedding was very personal, from handmade invitations and table settings, to having our friend marry us. Two days before the wedding we went to the Smithfield flower market to choose our flowers and make our own bouquets. We had 10 of our friend’s bake 10 different cakes for us."
The bride wore a stunning sheath style gown from Gemy Malouf (style 4142), which featured a long lace peplum-style overskirt.
"I tried on about 15 -20 dresses," she said. "I was delighted when I found my dress as the process felt bit grueling. My dress was designed by Gemy Maalouf, a Lebanese designer."
"We had 120 guests seated for dinner but many more came along to the ceremony and for dancing."
While the couple agreed that the food in Fallon & Bryne was a stand-out - "it was exceptional" - they also agree their star supplier had to be their photography Rob.
"He had us in stitches all day and captured the city vibe so well for us to remember."
The First Dance
"Our first dance was to The Book of Love, a sappy song that has been significant for us."
"Holding down a full-time job and trying to find the time to plan the details of the day."
"When you feel stressed or anxious, just remember who will be there on your big day: Just thinking of all your friends and family is bound to make you smile. "
HONEYMOON The honeymoon 4 nights in Monart and followed by 15 nights in Italy
The Funniest Moment
"Without a doubt, the speeches! It’s not every day you get to express so much joy and emotion with all your loved ones around."
