Markets have historically performed better under Republicans in the US - even George Bush Jr

Karen Birney,

Former US first daughter Barbara Bush has tied the knot with her fiancé Craig Coyne, after being walked down the aisle by her proud father George Bush Jr.

The former US president took to Instagram to share a snap of the moment he walked his 'fierce and daring' daughter towards her future husband Craig Coyne, as he welcomed now son-in-law to the Bush family.

The couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the family's home Kennebunkport, Maine compound, with the bride in a chic spaghetti strap sheath gown by Vera Wang.

Barbara's "something borrowed" was a bracelet that her late grandmother - former first lady Barbara Bush, who passed away in April at age 92 - had been given by her grandfather.

"Barbara is named for a unique and strong woman — and rightly so, because she is unique and strong," George Bush wrote on social media.

"@laurawbush and I are so proud of our compassionate, daring, fierce, kind, intelligent, loving daughter. And we’re thrilled to welcome Craig Coyne to our family."

"It was a wonderful day in Maine when Barbara married her love and Craig joined our family," former first lady Laura Bush captioned a photo of the family.

The couple have remained largely private throughout their relationship, with People reporting that they were set up by friends in November last year, and had been enjoying a long-distance relationship until just before the big day when Coyne moved to New York to be with this bride.

Craig popped the question in the exact same spot Barbara's grandfather George Sr proposed to his wife almost 75 years earlier.

"It's just been a very sweet romance. And we've been long-distance for most of it — he's been in LA and I've been in New York — but we've gotten to spend a lot of time together," Barbara said.
