'No one is surprised': Paris Hilton and Chris Zylka reportedly call off engagement
Couple had been pushing wedding date back after initially intending to marry this month, according to reports
It may well be a simple life for reality star Paris, but it seems that love hasn't been quite so straightforward as it's reported that the Hilton heiress and her fiancé have halted their wedding plans for good.
The couple are said to have called off their engagement earlier this month, nearly a year after Chris Zylka, an actor, popped the question.
The news of the split comes after Paris revealed she had pushed back her wedding to 2019 because she wants the day to be absolutely "perfect".
She said: "I want to be able to be relaxed, not stressed out and not having to rush off to a different country the next day. I want to be able to go directly from my wedding to my honeymoon and with my schedule [right now] that would be impossible. We’re both just working so much and decided it would be much better just to push it to next
year. With all the planning, I want it to be perfect and you can’t rush something like this."
While Paris fans may have been shocked by the latest report, a source has said the wedding 'was never going to happen', and that 'no one is surprised' that it was no longer going ahead.
The source told People magazine: "This wedding was never going to happen. They never had an engagement party and Chris' parents never even met Paris’ parents. They postponed the 11/11 date without a new date. No one is surprised by this at all.
"Paris got caught up in wanting a wedding and she just didn’t think about the marriage part. It was never going to work with Chris."
The couple "broke up a few weeks ago" because the relationship moved very fast", according to the insider. And Paris' mom Kathy Hilton said the star is far too busy to get married.
Asked about the delay in her daughter's wedding, she said: "She's promoting her fragrance right now and her new skin care and literally she does not have the time right now. They're very nice, we were with them just recently and they seem to really enjoy each other's company."
Hilton, 36, and The Leftovers actor Zylka, 32, became engaged while on a skiing trip in Aspen, Colorado.
Hilton wrote on Twitter at the time: “I am so excited to be engaged to the love of my life and my best friend. I have never felt so happy, safe and loved.
“He is perfect for me in every way and showed me that fairytales really do exist!”
In a follow-up message, the former The Simple Life star described her new fiancé as her “best friend and soulmate” and “perfect for me in every way”.
The reported former bride-to-be been trying to keep details about her wedding close to her chest but had hinted that her dress is very "elegant" and the ceremony would be small.
She explained when asked how many people she was planning to invite: "It's going to be very hard [to narrow down the guest list] because I have friends from all around the world. It's going to be a hard choice or else I'll have like a million people there."
