Her soap character may have a complicated love life, but off screen, Dublin actress Aoibheann McCaul is loved-up with fiancé Brian.

Aoibheann, who plays Caoimhe Dillon on Fair City, is over the moon after her long-term partner, former Meath GAA star Brian, asked her to marry him.

The Malahide soap star revealed that her other-half popped the question in recent weeks after presenting her with a jigsaw featuring an array of photos from their time together with the words "Will you marry me?" written across it.

Sharing the news on social media, Aoibheann wrote: "So this lunatic gave me a jigsaw a few weeks ago and I said yes!"

The couple have had an exciting few weeks with the engagement as well as embarking on an adventurous holiday across Sri Lanka.

They have been together for more than five years.

Aoibheann is best-known for her role as bitchy Caoimhe in Carrigstown. Her character recently started a new relationship with chef Dean after she and partner Damien went their separate ways.

Damien and Caoimhe have a daughter, and the news of her romance with Dean left handyman Damien devastated.

Aoibheann previously told the Herald that as well as her role on the soap she was training as a drama teacher.

"Everybody has a second gig. I do voiceovers all the time. No one is in there 50 weeks of the year or whatever. I think most actors on Fair City do voiceovers," she said.

Her exciting news comes after her close friend and former co-star Aoibhin Garrihy tied the knot with hotelier husband John Burke last year.

Aoibheann was on hand to watch her friend walk down the aisle at the ceremony in Clare.
