Irish couple invite strangers to bid on seats to their Vegas wedding to fund big day
Do you have a dream wedding in mind but can't afford it?
One Irish couple have come up with a unique way of funding their big day - by inviting six strangers to bid on their big day.
Patsy O'Connor and his fiancee Radina Hadzhieva are crowd funding the occasion, which they aim to host on March 16th in Las Vegas and then jet to Disneyland in California for their honeymoon.
The couple became engaged last year and Mr O'Connor said he fell in love with the idea of a Sin City wedding after a friend married there.
but their dream wedding wasn't in their budget, so they came up with the idea of auctioning off six seats for a front row seat of their big day.
"What’s landed me in this situation is that I met a Bulgarian girl a while back, and we fell head-over-heels in love. So one day I decided to check the lie [sic] of the land and I asked her 'If I were to ask you to marry me, would you say yes?' And she did," Patsy wrote in a post on their website, (www.gatecrashmywedding.com).
"So we started planning for the wedding, and one morning I woke up in bed with an interesting idea. I woke my future wife, ran the idea past her and she was crazy enough to love the plan, another reason why we are well suited to each other.
"However, funding for weddings has and always will be an issue, and there has been an increasing amount of websites launched where guests and friends can donate online to a wedding fund or honeymoon, thus paying for the costly event. I had a different idea."
"The wedding is in Vegas the 16th of March, the day before St. Patrick’s Day. If we like you at the wedding, then you will be invited along for the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, which will be on Fremont Street in downtown Vegas, the biggest party street in the city, with the entire wedding party!
"Now, the internet is a bizarre place, filled with madness and lunacy, but it’s also a great source of information. How many times in your life will you get the chance to attend a Vegas wedding, especially the day before St. Patrick’s Day. Well now you can…. All you have to do is bid for the privilege! Why not join us on our great adventure? Sure what have you got to lose?!"
The bidding starts at $300USD and promises a night filled with a free bar, dancing and "general all round shenanigans" for the winners.
The couple are also offering corporate sponsors for their limo hire, hotels, gambling budget and options to sponsor their honeymoon, according to the site.
"Most people opt for traditional weddings, but fortunately we are not your traditional type of couple," Patsy added.
