Deirdre, a nurse, and Michael, a HR operations manager, from Swords, Co Dublin, first met 11 years ago through mutual friends. A year later, they began dating while on J1 student visas in the United States together. In 2014, while Michael was working abroad in Wroclaw, Poland, Deirdre came to visit for the weekend… and Michael used his opportunity to get down on one knee and surprise her with the big question.
Deciding on a humanist ceremony, Deirdre and Michael found their dream venue in Slane, Co Meath.
"The Conyngham Arms Hotel was the perfect choice for having the relaxed, intimate wedding we wanted. It's decorated beautifully in a charming, cosy style," says Deirdre. The couple opted for a classic, natural look for the day to blend with the hotel décor and used neutral colours throughout.
The bride found her beautifully embellished dress in Alexanders Bridal on Parnell Street, Dublin 1, while the groom wore a Strellson suit from Arnotts. The pair juxtaposed photos of themselves at various milestones in their lives, which they framed for each table, and the cake was a joint effort - lovingly made by mother of the bride and mother of the groom.
After their special day, Deirdre and Mike spent their three-week honeymoon between Chicago, Cancún, Mexico and Washington DC.
