I've been a fan of Taylor Swift since the beginning...now I feel duped
When we first met Taylor Swift, she was a country-singing, sweet-talking, curly-haired girl from Pennsylvania.
She wore cowboy boots on the red carpet and was permanently attached to her guitar, singing about teenage heartbreak.
Fast forward 10 years and she might have ditched the boots for YSL heels; her hair is in a short, sleek bob, but the heartbreak remains.
Only this time, instead of strumming away about a high school boy leaving her to join the army, she’s aiming break-up anthems at Harry Styles, John Mayer and now, we expect, Calvin Harris
I’ve been a a fan of Taylor since her Teardrops On My Guitar days and I can’t help but feel like a fool for falling for all of her romances.
“She’s just a normal girl who wants to be in a relationship, what’s so bad about that?” I thought to myself as she stepped out with her latest beau.
“They’re so sweet. A high profile couple can never avoid the cameras now, can they?” I innocently pondered.
But when news emerged that she had split with Harris, her boyfriend of 15 months, and she was photographed with Tom Hiddleston just two weeks later – something switched.
They were pictured together on the rocks of her palatial Rhode Island home, conveniently kissing at a moment the paparazzi just happened to catch.
A week later, they attended Taylor’s friend Selena Gomez’s concert and Hiddleston reportedly met Taylor’s parents.
Next, they were photographed on a seaside stroll in Hiddleston’s native England, and this week they went on a city break to Rome where they have been followed every step of the way of their Disney cartoon levels of romance.
Each shot resembles a scene of a well-run, soon-to-be blockbuster movie – from him kissing her hand at dinner to their impromptu dancing during a dinner date in Rome, it’s all, just a little…much. And you can bet no one knows their angles better than T-Swiz.
These “behind the scenes” photos of their intimate kisses are no regular paparazzi photos and with all of her power and money, she can not only afford privacy, she can command it.
Unlike her relationships with Taylor Lautner, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal and even Harry Styles, I just don’t believe this Love Story.
As far as rebounds go, this feels like nothing but a swipe at Harris and an attempt to show him (and the world) that she waits for no man. Taylor wants to change her image from that of a heartbroken girl to a take-charge woman who does what she wants when she wants.
For the majority of Taylor’s career, she’s kept things under wraps. Her Instagram largely comprises of pictures of her cats, baking in her New York townhouse and heading out with her supermodel squad.
Until Harris, she rarely shared a picture from a personal relationship on social media (and yet we mysteriously knew every detail); but Hiddleswift has reached new heights.
She has finally abandoned her much sought-after private life and no longer wants to be known as “the girl who can’t keep a relationship”.
It seems that she wants to be known for her relationships, failed or not.
And as one of the biggest pop stars in the world with 10 Grammys and countless other awards, it looks like this is Taylor Swift’s world and we’re just living in it.
