BSAD is that low-level, all-pervading fear that sets in when you're working your way through a box-set, or binge-watching on Netflix, and the number of outstanding unwatched episodes starts to dwindle. Nothing beats the warm glow of a brand-new, untouched box-set, ripe with potential entertainment and fuel for dinner-party oneupmanship. Somebody says disdainfully: "Oh, you're watching Transparent? Well, we're really into Fortitude at the moment."
When it comes to binge-watching and box-sets, it's actually worth being behind the times. Hitting upon a good series that is already four or five seasons deep is a bonanza. But no matter how much we try and pace ourselves, invariably that old familiar BSAD will set in once more. We binged last year, when series two of House of Cards, starring Robin Wright, hit Netflix, and because we didn't pace ourselves, we spent a very long 12 months awaiting its return.
