Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, depart The Lindo Wing with Prince George in 2013

Prince William will still attend to his duties and open a new building at Oxford University's Chinese studies centre today, while Kate is no longer expected to accompany him.

Clarence House says the Queen is "delighted".

William and Catherine recently relocated to country house Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

William also recently announced his decision to take a pilots job with East Anglian air ambulance, based close to his new house.

Meanwhile, television and radio commentator on the British royal family Dickie Arbiter has dismissed claims the royal pregnancy was announced to deflect concern about the upcoming referendum on Scottish independence.

“That is absolutely impossible, you can’t time when someone becomes successfully pregnant,” Arbiter told Jonathan Healy on Newstalk’s Lunchtime.

“The suggestion that it’s a ploy to deflect concern about the Scottish referendum is ridiculous.

“This is just nature doing her thing. There is great excitement in London and the rest of the UK today and both the royal family and the Middletons are delighted,” he added.
