Pulses were set racing last night at both the London and Dublin premieres of the highly-anticipated screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Co-stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson got fans excited when they stepped out on the red carpet in London with author of the books, E.L. James, and director of the movie, Sam Taylor-Johnson, last night.

Jamie's wife Amelia Warner also attended the premiere.

The blockbuster will hit cinemas across Ireland tonight - just in time for Valentine's Day - and excitement levels reached fever pitch at the Irish premiere at the Lighthouse Cinema.

Model Pippa O'Connor admitted she hadn't read the books but was excited to see Northern Irish heartthrob Jamie take to the silver screen in his biggest role to date.

"I'm embarrassed to say I don't know anything about it, I haven't read the books so I kind of don't know what I'm letting myself in for but I'm excited," she told the Herald.

"I'm a big Jamie Dornan fan, especially after I watched him in The Fall - not only is very good looking but he's a great actor.

"It's all a bit of fun and there's been so much hype, it's a girlie night so I didn't bring my husband," she laughed.

Presenter and publishing powerhouse Norah Casey revealed that while she's not a fan of spanking, she was looking forward to all the saucy parts in the film.

"I've got the low-down on the sauciest parts of the books on many a night over glasses of wine with my friends," she laughed.

"Jamie Dornan is easy on the eye, I managed to give him a hug once at the Iftas so I had my 'Jamie Dornan moment'.

"I'm not too sure if I agree with spanking but obviously he gets away with it because he's rich plus I understand Anastasia is more powerful in the movie so this is one case where it's good that they used artistic license to change something from the books," she added.

Voice of Ireland presenter Kathryn Thomas also revealed she only read one book for the "saucy bits".

"I have read the book - the writing isn't great but the sex is good," she said.

"I think Jamie Dornan is hot but he's beard-less in this and I'm all about him with the beard.

"It's a good night out, I came with my friends - it's a bit of fun," she added.

Also at the Irish premiere was presenter Lorraine Keane, blogger Suzanne Jackson, Xpose's Aisling O'Loughlin and model Teodora Sutra.
