Fancy a fantastic facial, a free bag or the lowdown on the hair heros for home hairstyling? Our beauty boffin has it all, right here, right now!

Triona's trends

I'll let you in on one of my top beauty secrets: Achieving fabulous hair at home is one part product, one part practice, and TWO parts tools!

So if you think about it, the average blow-dry costs about €25 a week - over a month that's €100 - so it's much better to invest in the best hair heroes, like those I've selected.

The T3 FeatherLight Luxe 2i hairdryer, €235, from Space NK, actually cuts drying time in half. I can dry mine in six minutes with this! Investing in the best hairdryer you can afford pays off as it gives salon-looking hair at home.

L'Oreal Professional Steampod,  €165. This flat iron uses steam to infuse pro-keratin into the hair shaft. Use either to straighten the hair or make it more manageable if it is unruly. I can get three days of straight hair from this and it's so much healthier for hair than burning the bejasus out of it with flat irons

Boutique Salon Ceramic Rollers by BaByliss, €65, are just the best. The dual source system heats both the roller and the clip, heating the hair from all directions for quick, long-lasting results. They heat up super fast, so I pop them in, and then put on my make-up, before unrolling to reveal a fabulous mane of curls.

Remington AS7055 Big Style Air Rollers, €58.99, are like having a hairdresser in your house! The 3-in-1 hair tool comes with self-grip rollers, so no need for clips or pins. Just choose the roller size, attach to the styler, roll into your hair and let the styler dry the curl from the inside. It also has a mini hairdryer attachment, as well as a thermal bristle brush attachment to help finish the look by shaping the ends and adding extra height at the roots.

Triona's trick

You know those little sample sachets that come free with magazines?

I stockpile mine in a drawer on my bedside table, so that at night, if I'm too lazy to walk - or, rather, waddle, at this stage of my pregnancy - all the way to the bathroom to sort my skin before bedtime, I can do it easily while in bed.

Lighten up

Let me enlighten you ladies about the latest wonder cream. We now have, wait for it, an EE cream from Estee Lauder called Enlighten Even Effect Skintone Corrector,  €47.

Yes we've had BB and CC creams and then, em, DD creams so somebody had to do it and bring out an EE. I swear it doesn't match my pregnancy bra size!

The EE stands for "even effect", and it's basically like a CC cream on steroids, as it has an SPF of 30, so it will protect skin from damaging UV rays as well as correcting uneven pigmentation.

It also helps disguise blemishes and reduce redness while creating a more even skintone. All from one lil tube.

Top tip: Remember a little tint takes years off your face by evening out your skin tone, a key marker of youthfulness.

Now what's gonna happen when they get to ZZ? ZZ Tops, ZZ Tops off?! Hee, Hee!

Let's just hope my bust doesn't keep going that way too!

Oh my gold

I love a good GWP - gift with purchase - and the Calvin Klein black-and-gold tote bag should also tickle your pickle as it comes free with any purchase from the Calvin Klein fragrance collection when you spend more than €36.80.

To avail of the offer you should check out the new limited editions of the cult Euphoria fragrance called Eurphoria Gold for women, and Euphoria Gold for Men, both €48.30.

They differ from the original as they're a bit headier.

The ladies' one is a fruity floriental with apricot, kumquat, tangerine, honey, gardenia, daffodil, white patchouli, sandalwood and musk - my all-time favourite smell; while the male version is an oriental concoction with ginger, lemon, cinnamon, honey, basil, amber, patchouli and vanilla.

With Christmas coming, why not treat a loved one to a fragrance and self-gift yourself the bag, or vice versa? To: Moi, From: Moi. Happy Christmas!

Triona's most wanted

Being pregnant, just like Blake Lively, there aren't a lot of salon-type treatments I can have.

However, my skin was looking really lined lately and with a boyf six years younger than me, I wanted to do something to sort it!

So I called on new mum herself - Sue Machesney from Bellaza Beauty Salon in Ranelagh, Dublin.

Sue used an LED safe-light treatment on me that works to bring nutrients and blood to the skin to rev up the collagen, and fibroblasts to heal any rashes, spots, hormonal redness, dryness and tired-looking skin.

I found that even one treatment worked wonders, leaving my skin glowing.

It's €95 a session, but if you mention LIFE magazine, Sue has a special offer of three treatments for €235. Bellazza Beauty Salon, 27 Ranelagh Rd, D6, tel: (01) 496-3484, or see bellazabeauty.com

Cult product

Did you have a sober October and now you're gearing up for the Kissmas party season?

I love this time of year when party invites start piling up. You don't get a nickname like Party McCarthy from sitting in every evening!

Actually, I always tell my younger sisters to party while they're young/don't have kids, because nobody looks back and remembers the nights they went to bed early!

The perfect party playmate is this Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder,  €56, a sheer platinum/ gold illuminator designed to dazzle when on the razzle!

I use it as an eyebase as well as on my cheekbones and décolleté.
