Green Queen... and her natural beauty products
This week it's time to think natural skincare and make-up. Our beauty expert takes us through all her favourites
If you think I look a little awkward in my photo this week, it's because I was full of milk and could barely fold my arms across my chest! I can't believe I'm typing those words. Before I had kids, I would totally have been doing a throwing-up motion if somebody mentioned breastfeeding, and now, here I am, writing about it. How did that happen? The things you do for love!
So, this week, I thought we'd talk about natural beauty products, in keeping with my new Mother Triona image!
The average Joe Soap - pun intended - uses roughly 10 different skincare products every single day. In the process, we absorb something like 130 chemicals! I'm so conscious of all this now; as I said, I'm nursing, so what I use goes into my baby too.
Here are the products I've been using: Dr Bronner's Organic Shikakai Hand & Body Soap, €10. I spend my life washing my hands, so I like to use this as it's a blend of organic, caramelised white-grape juice, sucrose Shikakai powder, various oils and vitamin E, to leave my hands moisturised.
Supermodel Miranda Kerr, who is also a mum, is a big organic-skincare fan, having teamed up with Kora Organics to create a range with them, see net-a-porter.com. The Hydrating Day and Night Cream, €63, is my favourite item, as the mid-weight moisturising cream is blended with extracts of rose, six natural omega fatty acids, mandarin oil and bergamot, to rejuvenate dull complexions.
Finally, when it comes to lipstick, there's some statistic that says a woman consumes over six pounds of lipstick over her lifetime! Make mine an organic one so, such as Ilia lipstick, €28, in the shade In My Room, see iliabeauty.com for stockists. Packed with moisturising cocoa butter, jojoba oil and vitamin E and formulated with 100pc natural dyes, this is the perfect pink lipstick shade that flatters every skin tone.
So you've just paid a fortune to have your nails painted and you're swanning down the road thinking you're only gawjus, when disaster strikes and you smudge a nail!
Simples, just lick it! I'm not joking. This will help gently smooth the smudge out, as your saliva will react with the nail polish to help soften and blend the surface.
Go with the flow
Heavy foundations are so winter 2014! With warm weather on the way, it's time to switch to a more sheer base, such as bareMinerals Complexion Rescue, Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream, €29.
If you've never tried a tinted moisturiser before or tried some and thought "meh", then I'd highly recommend this one. It's the best one I have ever used!
This is kind of like the very best bits of a BB cream and a CC cream and a tinted moisturiser together. As well as having an SPF 30, it's all formulated without fragrance, parabens or any any other nasties.
So it's a really good product for the skin, especially if you're in need of some extra help to increase your skin's hydration.
After just one week, I really noticed a difference. My skin looked lovely and healthy and glowy, not greasy.
I love how it's working to improve my skin with all the skincare benefits it has, while giving my skin a great glow. #youglowgirl
I met the wonderful Kim Catrall on her recent trip to Dublin. Up close and personal, I have to say that the British-born actress looks flawless.
To quote her character Samantha from Sex and the City: "Jesus, honey! Wax much? I could be on death row and not have that situation".
She should check out Waxperts in Dun Laoghaire, as it's the place to go for a pain-free experience.
Waxperts have, of course, a policy of never 'double dipping', as it's far more hygienic and also means less red lumps after your wax.
Pick up a pot of the Waxperts Ingrown Hair Pads, €7.99, anyway, as the 40 cotton pads - which are infused with salicylic acid, rosemary and benzioc acid - not only keep skin smooth, they're great for spots too.

Triona's most wanted
My friend Helen O'Dwyer and I love playing this game when we're out, where we pretend we know each other from when we were both Miss Irelands! As if - but you'd be amazed at how many people will say, "Oh, I remember the year you won", and so of course I have to go on with the outrageous lies!
At a recent ladies' lunch, after a few glasses of vino, we started up with the spoof, but nobody bloody believed us!
I reckon because both Helen and I have had two kids in two years each, that we need to instantly up our skincare game, so I got us both Ren's new Instant Beauty Booster kit, €45, containing their three all-star, results-driven skin treatments.
There's their Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask a potent bio-active peel mask designed to renew the complexion, combat blemishes, reduce the appearance of fine lines and dramatically improve skin tone.
The Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial, below far right, is also amazing, as you just add water to activate the vitamin C in the formula so it turns into a delightfully rich, smooth lotion.
Finally the KYB Firming & Smoothing Cream is formulated to firm, lift and restructure the skin. Watch out Rosanna Davison - after using this, there'll be two new former Miss Worlds knocking around Dublin!
I love how perfume can express a person's personality without them saying a word.
My favourite fragrance right now is a newbie by Memo Paris called Ihla do Mel (which translates as Honey Flowers), €190, Brown Thomas. It's like a honey-flavoured flower bouquet, with hints of juniper berry, vanilla and musk.
I've been wearing it every day lately as I find it so uplifting, and it's like the finishing piece to my OOTD (outfit of the day).
I might only be in a T-shirt and jeans, but I can upgrade my outfit by wearing this designer perfume!
