Zahia Dehar’s triumphant (and racy) return at Paris Haute Couture Week
Former teenage escort Zahia Dehar, who was at the centre of a French football sex scandal, staged her second lingerie show during Paris Haute Couture Week.
Clutching a bouquet of white roses, veil atop her head, wearing a transparent dress (save for a few strategically-placed embroideries), Zahia Dehar emerged triumphant from a Barbie-style box at her second catwalk show in Paris yesterday.
While the fashion pack mused over Raf Simons' hotly-anticipated debut for Dior, the French-Morrocan model (and former prostitute) presented her latest underwear line to a crowd which counted respected French actresses Emmanuelle Béart and Béatrice Dalle.
On stage, models materialised from inside giant cupcakes wearing pleated skirts and corsets, accessorised with tousled hair. Later, the runway was bathed in red light as heart-shaped balloons paved the way for models in sheer bodysuits embellished with only a handful of red crystals to preserve their modesty.
Blonde Dehar, who found herself at the centre of a sex scandal in 2010 involving three French footballers (it emerged that she had been paid thousands of euros for sex when she was underage) has turned around her fortunes and found a lucrative new use for body. She launched the 'Zahia By' lingerie label in January this year, during Haute Couture Week, and her first lookbook was shot by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld.
The designer said about Zahia: "She is very French courtesan, like Liane de Pougy or the Belle Otéro."
"I love this girl. I love her life story, and what she does is very pretty, too," ‘Betty Blue’ actress Beatrice Dalle enthused from the front row.
With support like that, it looks we'll be making an haute couture date with Zahia for seasons to come.
