What She Wears: 70's Style Jeans
With each new season comes a fresh take on fashions past, this spring it's the 1970’s. We’re talking draped jersey, batwing sleeves, a plethora of Studio 54 references, and of course, flares.
Flared trousers were all over the catwalk this season, particularly wide-leg jeans. These type of jeans are uber flattering, the length elongates the legs and hence the body, whereas the jean shape hugs all the right curves and skims the not-so-right bits.
Designer Derek Lam known for his clean and crisp silhouettes – displayed some gorgeous pairs of wide-leg flares in his S/S 11 show. Lam kept his jeans simple and teamed them with wedges and a feminine crisp – white blouse, a perfect little work outfit for spring.
For an almost identical look to Derek Lam’s catwalk look, Mango have a reasonably priced alternate – their Jeans Lenny (€49.95) are light denim, high waisted and have particularly wide legs, which they describe as ‘elephant-legs’.
For a more casual take, look to Kelly Brook or Katie Holmes for inspiration, team your flares with a fitted check shirt or a block-colour tee tucked into the jeans and yes, it may be your day off but you still need to wear with wedges!
A|Wear have a great Dark Wash Flare Jean (€39), the indigo hue of the denim and the fact that the material is quite weighty means that it is a rather perfect jean for the curvier lady.
NW3, the slightly younger, cooler sister brand of HOBBS also have a dark denim wide leg jean in stock, the jean has a higher waist band and stretch within for a close-to-perfect fit. Get your pair of NW3 jeans in Arnotts – they cost €95.
If you prefer a lighter wash, The Outnet have a lovely pair of light-denim Pierre high-rise flared jeans (€71.39) by Sienna Miller and her sister’s label Twenty8Twelve, they are a tighter fit compared to the Mango pair so keep that in mind!
So what are you waiting for - let's disco!
