Wedding belles... Add a dash of romance - and colour - to the big day
What else should a wedding dress be but romantic? For our cover shot this weekend, I jumped at the opportunity to use the Casablanca Lily dress ($9,600 USD) by the international designer, Galia Lahav. She has been designing in Israel for over 30 years and her new collection, 'Florence by Night', is guaranteed to make hearts beat faster.
The embroidered tulle sheer ballgown with 3D rose motif, sheer corset pleated skirt and a ruffle detail accentuating the shoulders, is from Bridal Reflections, 437 Fifth Avenue, New York (tel +1 212-764-3040) where Galia Lahav dresses start at €5,000. Starting prices for the store's other brands - including Leah Da Gloria, Eve of Milady, Stephen Yearick and Calle Blanche - run from $2,000-$10,000.
I came across Bridal Reflections when a New York-based friend was looking for a wedding gown a few years ago. They now have three salons with different designers and styles, and work with a large international clientèle. They can do one- or two-day fittings for those travelling to New York.
On my fashion sorties around Ireland, I'm always on the lookout for new shapes, and better again, new colours, which is why I was delighted to see Helen McAlinden's new SS18 includes lemon in lovely tones. The knee-length, V-neck 'Astrid' dress (top right) suits most body shapes and the fluid fabric - a blend of polyester, viscose and cotton - falls softly over the hip.
The collarless 'Nicola' bouclé coat (top right) is ideal for a summer wedding, whether for MOB or guest, with its sleek body-skimming silhouette and decorative buttons. You could build up a very stylish MOB look and then gets lots of value out of the two pieces on their own.
I met Dervla Cogan of Brilliant Inc, whose affordable, simulated diamonds are a major hit at Brown Thomas, as they look like the real deal. Dervla advised me that yellow diamonds are particularly good with blonde hair, something I wouldn't have twigged myself. For brides considering their wedding day jewellery, that's an idea worth chasing down - it should work a treat in the photos.
If you catch the yellow diamond bug, there is an impressive emerald cut 'Tilly' ring with yellow centre stone and non-mined diamond trilliants, handset in platinum vermeil on sterling silver, and it costs €180.
DROP DEAD GORGEOUS
Brilliant Inc 'Mimi' pearl chandelier white gold earrings, €145, and 'Lady Love' claw set earrings with round and yellow pear cut simulated diamonds set in sterling silver, €197 for 2.5ct. The range is stocked on the ground floor, Brown Thomas, Grafton Street.
