Doutzen Kroes wishes she could be "cool and androgynous" and not use a handbag.

The model is always looking for simple ways to update her style or make her stand out from the crowd.

Picking the right accessory – or opting for none at all to show off your outfit completely - is top of her list of tips.

“My stylist never carries a handbag, which is a really cool androgynous look that I try to work at parties,” she told the latest edition of UK ‘InStyle’.

“Though, obviously for practical reasons, I do need one when I travel – you can’t go wrong with a chic Céline.”

Doutzen wasn’t that interested in fashion when she was growing up but now she’s carved out a career as a model, things are very different.

She has several favourite designers and is still in awe of the giant princess dress Zac Posen created for her for the 2010 Met Ball in New York City.

“Zac Posen made me a beautiful blue dress for the Met Ball a few years ago. The only problem was, it was so big that going to the bathroom was a nightmare!” she laughed.

“My style is very minimal. For everyday, I team Alexander Wang leather shorts with Margiela blouses. I also find Azzedine Alaïa dresses really flatter my figure.”
