Venus not shy about causing a racket
THE 125th Wimbledon Tennis Championships began yesterday with Venus Williams (pictured) serving up a fashion statement.
The five-time champion sported a sleeveless lacy outfit with a split down the back as she easily dispatched first-round opponent Akgul Amanmuradova.
The tournament will draw hundreds of thousands of fans for the next two weeks.
Not only do this year's winners stand to enjoy adulation, critical acclaim and admiration from their fellow professionals, they will also pocket £1.1m (€1.24m) -- up £100,000 (€113,138) from last year.
Consolation for the runner-up -- for both men and women -- comes in the form of a cheque for £550,000 (€622,174).
