Velvet leads the fashion pack
Forget the little black dress because this season is all about the little black velvet dress. In fact, it doesn’t even need to be black – it could be passionate red, regal purple, midnight blue or shimmering silver - but if you want to be at the top of the fashion pack then velvet is the only material to be wrapping yourself up in.
The beauty of this elegant fabric is that it looks expensive, even when it comes from a high street retailer. So if you want to look classy at this weekend’s swanky party, make velvet your textile of choice.
Celebrities all over the globe have been working the trend recently, with movie star Emma Watson looking beautiful at a recent red carpet event in a velvet-detail black frock.
Emma teamed her dress with gold statement jewellery and red lips, meaning she was bang on trend.
Meanwhile, British television presenter Fearne Cotton has been photographed looking the epitome of chic in a floor-length red velvet robe. The beautiful star combined the look with bouffant hair and a crucifix necklace, giving her a gothic-meets-Hollywood style.
The high street is swarming with stunning velvet robes so you’ll be spoilt for choice. If you fancy splashing out on designer, try picking up a vintage Chanel or Vivienne Westwood gown and re-create that retro film star glamour.
