WOMEN are notorious for carrying big handbags to hold their 'stuff'. But at 12ft high, this giant Hermes Kelly now allows you to get a sense of how the 'stuff' feels.
The giant Hermes Kellydoscope, set up in the accessories hall of Brown Thomas on Dublin's Grafton Street yesterday, is a mini-cinema which sits one.
Taller than the average apartment room, it is made on the outside from tan leather and beige toile fabric. Inside you can watch one of three short movies about Grace Kelly -- and the bag moves to give you a sense of how your phone or wallet gets knocked about.
Outside in the store, a top-of-the-range cream crocodile version of the bag -- first made famous by the Hollywood actress in the 1950s when she used it to hide her pregnancy -- will set you back €16,000.
Exotic leathers such as ostrich and croc are used alongside goatskin and prices depend on the size and skin. The cheapest Kelly is a wallet at €1,000.
But the average spent on a Kelly 'it' bag in Ireland is between €5,000 and €6,000.
The Birkin, another famous Hermes bag, was co-designed by actress Jane Birkin who said the Kelly was not big enough for her.
The Kellydoscope will be open in the Brown Thomas store until November 14.
