Capes: Just park those images of Mary Poppins and prissy nannies in thick lisle tights — the caped crusaders of 2010 wear theirs with attitude, and over leather or suede shorts if they have their way.

We fell in love with aviator sunglasses, and this has followed on with wartime shearling flying jackets — a must-have this season. They filter down from couturier looks to the cute one by Acne, new to Brown Thomas, and the many high-street veriations.
Alexander McQueen’s last collection has a wonderful baroque feel with lots of scarlet and gold, both key colours in their own right this season, along with purple. Don’t forget purple: it’s great with Irish complexions and, come Christmas, there will be gold everywhere. In the meantime, explore metallics with great separates.
Camel coats just shout class, and this season they don’t have to cost a fortune. From the gleam of camel cashmere to the chic allure of colour topped up sensationally with tan accessories, it’s a winning look. Wear yours long like a comfort blanket à la Aquascutum, or try a shorter version with boots or trousers.
My catwalk crush came courtesy of Miuccia Prada, especially her check-print dresses and the divine, ‘girlie’ styling. This was sexy sophistication at its best. LK Bennett and People Tree, new to Arnotts in Henry Street, offer a very affordable high-street interpretation.

Leather will be another big trend and was featured by designers like Prada for AW10.
