The summer's been great, but now let's rehydrate!

You'd think that after a week or two in the sun, you'd return home feeling relaxed and revitalised, and maybe even looking quite fabulous. A girl can dream. Sigh... you may feel good, but chances are your complexion is suffering just a little from all that excess of vitamin D.

Too much dehydration equals parched skin, and a dip in the pool, a swim in the sea, and, or a cocktail or two or three won't help. But you can find that golden glow when you get back home – with a little help.

I know it goes against received wisdom to opt for a rich creamy moisturiser at this time of year, but sometimes the rule book needs to be thrown out!

Antipodes Saviour Skin Balm, €30

The stunning New Zealand scenery inspired Kiwi native Elizabeth Barbalich to create this skincare balm. It boasts a healing mix of tea tree oil and totara, which is the perfect antidote to the heat of nasty bug bites. It can also be used to tackle dry and cracked skin, grazes and bruises, chapped lips, sore muscles, sunburn and in-flight hydration.

Nuxe Soft-Skin Booster Body Scrub, €24.50

A large-grain blend of bamboo, rice, lychee and walnut it's gentle enough for sensitive skin and won't irritate or cause redness. Great for getting rid of dry scaly patches on elbows and knees.

Benefit B.Right Total Moisture Facial Cream, €39.50

This thick, luxurious cream comes in typically adorable Benefit packaging. It can take a few minutes to sink into skin, so is best applied at night (the fragrance may be irritating to some). Best for normal/dry skin.

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector, €58

Contrary to reports, this won't work miracles! Although it's pricey, it's worth investing in to lighten sun spots and even out skin tone. Make sure to exfoliate regularly for best results. Bonus points for including antioxidants and the pump bottle is handy.

Voya Love A Scrub, €28

Packed with organic, natural ingredients, this is a very gentle facial exfoliator that can be used several times a week and is even suitable for sensitive types.

Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque, €40.20

Gives dull skin a real lift, leaving it glowing. Use this calming, nourishing mask after exfoliation. Highly recommended.

Kiehl's Superbly Restorative Body Lotion, €34

Very lightweight, with an almost gel-like consistency, this absorbs very easily and leaves parched skin feeling revitalised and fresh. I like the citrus fragrance, but the dispenser is a little bit awkward.

Sisley Self Tanning Hydrating Body Care, €86

Want to keep some semblance of a holiday glow? Then check out this super-moisturising blend of wild pansy, sweet chestnut, sunflower oil and vitamin E. Bonus points for a quickly absorbed and no-streak formulation; it (almost) makes up for the price.
