We need to discuss the impracticalities of Kylie Jenner's ripped jeans (and why Irish women will never wear them)
Would you be able?
Kylie Jenner's latest outfit post on Instagram features racy, ripped jeans that are slit just below her bum cheeks - are you daring enough to try it?
There's no doubt that ripped jeans was one of this summer's biggest trends. The style no longer belongs to the grunge, skater and punk kids of the 90's. And ripped knees are no longer accidental. In fact, you might struggle to find a pair in the shops that are still intact.
While we're used to seeing knees, thighs and shins on display through frayed bits of jeans this summer, the latest body part to burst through the constraints of denim is a little... eh, cheeky.
As seen on Kylie Jenner, her latest Instagram outfit post features jeans that are strategically slashed just below her bum cheeks. Is this the latest stage in the evolution of ripped jeans?
"Obviously Kylie Jenner, coming from the Kardashian family, is used to pushing the boundaries when it comes to fashion and I think some girls could try to emulate the look but I don't think it will become a widespread trend," fashion stylist Corina Gaffey tells Independent.ie
While we know that it isn't 'Casual Friday'-appropriate or the type of outfit that you could comfortably wear at your granny's 80th (imagine trying to pull off Rock the Boat while your bum is touching the sticky ground of the local GAA hall), is there a time and place for the look?
"I imagine that it could probably work at festivals," says Corina.
"The denim hotpants with the underbum cleavage was a big look this summer but with the jeans you're getting a little more coverage.
"But you have to remember that as a Kardashian, Kylie is gifted with a nice rear end and curves. If you don't have that, it might not have the same effect. Also, she's posing for Instagram and pushing her bum out so the look might not be as dramatic in real life."
"I think Irish people will take it or leave it, to be honest," says Corina.
What about the Irish weather? You're practically inviting raindrops to trickle down your bum. What if you sit down and accidentally rip the jeans even further, exposing your whole bum to the world?
What underwear do you wear? How do you sit on the bus?
Impractical for sure but if you've got it, flaunt it.
