This picture of Jennifer Lawrence sums up what it's like to be a woman in Hollywood
So begins today's lesson of digital Clue: what is it about this picture of Jennifer Lawrence that stands out to you?
Is it that she's the only woman among a group of five? You're getting warm. Or is it that she's the only one wearing a plunging gown, a modern reincarnation of Liz Hurley's iconic Versace safety pin dress from 1994? Warmer...
Or is that she's the only one who wasn't even given a coat to wear on a cold winter's afternoon in London? Bingo!
This picture of the Oscar-winning from a photocall promoting her new spy thriller Red Sparrow on Tuesday has gone viral,
Helen Lewis, an editor at New Statesman, hit the nail on the head with her tweet captioning the photo, "True equality means either Jennifer Lawrence getting a coat, or Jeremy Irons having to pose for a photocall in assless chaps."
At 27, Lawrence is the youngest out of the group of five, but she has also has the biggest star power, both in the industry and in mainstream recognition. She doesn't need to wear a half-naked dress to get column inches for a new project of hers, it gets column inches simply by her being in it.
She has previously spoken about being labelled "difficult" after standing up for herself to a director, which some have been recirculating on social media in recent days.
"I've had this happen: I finally made the decision to stand up for myself, and then I went to go to the bathroom at work and one of the producers stopped me and was like, 'You know, we can hear you on the microphone; you've been really unruly'," she told the Hollywood Reporter in November.
"Which was not true, but basically my job was threatened because the director said something f**ked up to me and I said, 'That's sick, you can't talk to me like that,' and then I was punished, and I got afraid that I wasn't going to be hired again," she says. Without naming the director in question, she recalls, "I was called 'difficult' and a 'nightmare.'"
There's also every chance she simply liked the dress, wanted to wear it and wanted to feel sexy despite the weather.
