Supermodel Nicole Trunfio makes history breastfeeding on the cover of Elle Magazine
Australian supermodel Nicole Trunfio has caused a stir with her latest magazine cover.
The 29-year-old, who has modelled for GQ, Versace and Cavalli to name a few, beams as she's pictured breastfeeding her five-month-old son Zion on the June cover of Australian Elle Magazine.
The high fashion publication said that it wasn't a contrived shot, but rather a "completely natural moment" caught between the new mother and her son on set.
For the main issue which is on newsstands Down Under, she is posing with the new arrival, but for the subscribers' edition, she is seen posing in couture while her son breastfeeds.
ELLE editor-in-chief Justine Cullen said: "This wasn’t a contrived situation: Zion needed a feed, Nicole gave it to him, and when we saw how beautiful they looked we simply moved her onto the set. It was a completely natural moment that resulted in a powerful picture.”
Nicole said she's thrilled with the finished product and seeing the cover brought tears to her eyes.
"When I saw the [subscriber] cover of me breastfeeding, which was unplanned and just natural, I teared up and thought, 'Wow this is such a special moment where my worlds have collided'," she said.
"There is nothing more powerful and beautiful than motherhood. The last thing I want to do is be controversial, so please take this for what it is, let us #normalizebreastfeeding there is nothing worse than a mother that is judged for feeding her hungry child in public.
"I'm so proud of this cover and what it's stands for. I obviously don't look like this or wear [this] while I am breastfeeding but this stands for all women out there, whether you breastfeed or not, we gave birth, we are women, we are mothers," she added.
It’s the first time an Australian magazine has published a picture of a mother feeding on its cover.
Nicole is engaged to Grammy-nominated singer Gary Clark Jr and welcomed the new arrival into the world on January 11.
