Royal Ascot racegoers turn heads on Ladies Day in most bizarre outfits yet
Racegoers at Royal Ascot continued to push past fashion norms with bold and bizarre outfits on Ladies Day.
Thousands descended upon the Berkshire course this morning, wearing outfits and hats far from the demure style the event is used to seeing.
Racegoer Melanie Mar from Los Angeles made a statement in a cobalt blue leather dress with a thigh high split, just about staying within the strict dress code.
Formal daywear is required, which means no hemlines should be shorter than your knee or thin-strapped tops, trouser suits needs to be full length and all one colour; jumpsuits are also permitted, but must also fall to the knee or lower.
"Strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck and spaghetti straps are not permitted, the website reads.
"Midriffs must be covered. Fascinators are not permitted; neither are headpieces which do not have a solid base covering a sufficient area of the head."
Queen Elizabeth will attend later today to present the Gold Cup, while the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended on Tuesday.
