Revealed: Michelle Obama's dress code for White House guests
We've got yet another reason to fall for Michelle Obama.
As expected, the outgoing US First Lady has a dress code she enforces with all White House guests - and it includes bare feet.
The FLOTUS is seriously relaxed when it comes to making guests feel comfortable at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Spanx founder Sara Blakely told Footwear News she kicked off her heels with the blessing of the first lady, before they bonded over their sore feet.
"I stood in line at an event, and they allowed us to get a one-on-one photo with Michelle Obama,” she said.
"I waited in the line so long that by the time I finally got up to Michelle Obama, I literally burst out, ‘My feet are killing me,’ and she goes, ‘Girl, my feet are killing me, too.’
"I asked if I can take my shoes off and she said, ‘Yes, and you can tell anyone who tells you to put them back on that Mrs. Obama said you can take them off.'"
“The first lady and I bonded over sore feet,” she added.
When he took office in 2008, President Obama introduced a more relaxed dress code across the board by introducing "business casual" for weekends, meaning jeans were allowed in huge contrast to George W.Bush's rules.
"He showed up Saturday for a briefing with his chief economic adviser, Lawrence H. Summers, dressed in slacks and a gray sweater over a white buttoned-down shirt. Veterans of the Bush White House are shocked," the New York Times reported in 2008.
