Every year, we get wrapped up in the star-spangled precession that is awards season. The world's A-list, dolled up in their glad rags and finery, take to the red carpet and enchant (or appal) us.
This year's contenders will be stepping out on Sunday at the Golden Globes, the first major awards ceremony and often a precursor to the main event, the Academy Awards. So before we enter six weeks of dress and shoe-gazing, it's time to take a look at the ladies up for the big awards, their best red-carpet looks thus far, and what we can predict for 2015...
She may already have a Best Actress statuette under her belt for Walk the Line, but there’s no doubt that Reese is ready for another Oscar thanks to her performance in Wild.
She’s had a relatively quiet couple of years, but she’s certainly back with a bang in a film based on the memoir of Cheryl Strayed. At 38, the mother-of-three has never looked better.
Style prediction: lots of colour. While Reese isn’t building as much buzz as her competitors, we should never rule her out — the voters adore her. She’s in fantastic shape, so expect focus on those strong arms and shoulders with strapless gowns.
British actress Felicity is drawing rave reviews for her performance as Jane Wilde Hawking in The Theory of Everything. The 31-year-old is quite daring in the fashion stakes — more English rose than wallflower.
Style prediction: a style chameleon. Felicity is showing her fashion cred — we’re most excited about this up and comer.
Julianne has been nominated for four Oscars but she’s never won — could this be Julianne’s year? She’s starting strong with two nods at the Golden Globes — for her work as an Alzheimer’s patient in “Still Alice,” and as an aging actress in “Maps to the Stars. However, just what she will out of the sartorial bag remains a mystery. Ms Moore is known for being hit and miss when it comes to red-carpet outings, so we can’t wait to see her full-on and fabulous looks.
Style prediction: some crazy creations, so she’ll both wow and drive us mad this season.
A real red-carpet chameleon, everyone is talking about Emma’s role in Birdman and her strong chances of awards success. She rarely puts a foot wrong, so expect an impressive 2015 red carpet.
Style prediction: avant-garde choices.Tall and lithe, Emma has the figure of a supermodel and can get away with pretty much anything. She’ll be this year’s risk taker, and we’ll see her wearing Lanvin and Proenza Schouler over the next six weeks.
