It was a night of glitz and glam but in the end only one woman could be named most stylish of the year - Jennifer Zamparelli.

The RTE star picked up the gong last night at the Peter Mark 2019 VIP Style Awards in the Marker Hotel.

Fellow TV star Brian Dowling was the named the most stylish man, while the newcomer award went to Joanna Cooper.

Storm Hannah threatened to spoil the party as inclement weather conditions forced organisers to move the red carpet inside, in order to spare the celebrities' immaculate outfits.

Some 240 guests had spent the past few days primping, preening and perfecting their red carpet look to ensure they made just the right impression at the annual event likened to 'Ireland's fashion Oscars'.

Zamparelli led the charge down the carpet in a 'Beautiful South' navy and blue outfit, alongside Kathryn Thomas, Lottie Ryan, Sile Seoige and Blathnaid Treacy.

And Holly Carpenter certainly turned heads in a mauve chiffon creation with yards of tulle.

Created especially for her by her designer pal Eamonn McGill, she said that it took "a lot of guts" to wear it but the night was all about having fun and celebrating fashion.

Sisters Aoibhin and Doireann Garrihy also looked super glam.

Fresh from the success of season two of Derry Girls was popular actress Saoirse Monica Jackson.

And there was no shortage of glamour pusses battling it out for look of the year, with Virgin Media's Anna Daly competing with Thalia Heffernan - ultimately the winner in the category - and Louise McSharry.

An estimated 250,000 votes were cast this year by members of the public as they chose their favourites in the six different categories.

Hosted this year by Maia Dunphy, there was also a coveted goody bag worth €300 for every guest, who sat down to a four course meal with wine shortly after 8pm after being welcomed in by VIP publisher Michael O'Doherty.
