Irish style stars Ruth Negga and Stella Maxwell dazzle on Met Gala red carpet
2016 may have an overall terrible year, but it launched Ruth Negga to stratospheric levels of stardom and a place at the top of every designer's wishlist.
The Irish actress (36) joined the industry elite on Monday night at the Met Gala, hosted by Anna Wintour's Costume Center. It's little surprise the Limerick native nabbed an invite as she featured on the cover of US Vogue in January and often appears on the style bible's best dressed lists.
Negga, who attended with long-term boyfriend Dominic Cooper, but opted against a public picture of them, stunned in a dramatic white gown with embellished floor length cape detail by Valentino and jewellery by Tiffany & Co. The Oscar-nominated actress posed with Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, who hosted her for the evening.
Stella Maxwell, whose parents are from Belfast and regularly visits Northern Ireland, shunned the high fashion theme of the night in favour of a custom semi-sheer gown with fringe detail by H&M, alongside supermodel pal Ashley Graham.
While their appearances may come as no surprise, all 610 tickets (which start at $30,000 for one) for the Met Gala are considered 'gold dust' and never guaranteed - no matter how famous you are.
Supermodel Coco Rocha wasn't invited back this year, reportedly due to a disagreement with event co-chair Katy Perry and stylist turned designer Rachel Zoe was reportedly dis-invited in 2007 after claiming she was more influential in fashion than Wintour, according to the New York Post.
In previous years, Colin Farrell, Sarah Greene and Saoirse Ronan have all walked the Met Gala red carpet.
