Are we just wearing bras as tops now?
The future is upon us and it looks...cold.
Modern women are well acquainted with the bra. It serves a function - it keeps you in place where you need it most.
But apparently we are to forego that incomparable comfort of taking our bra off at home after a long day in favour of some bright, colourful creation we're supposed to wear instead of a top.
I blame Monica Rose.
The celebrity stylist is responsible for the street style looks we see Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Chrissy Teigen, Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid papped in daily. She's the reason girls are wearing bodycon catsuits, chokers and why thigh high boots are back.
During her daily dressing of some of the world's most photographed women and their impossibly long and lean physiques, the fashion industry took note. Which was an inevitability when these women stalk the runways during Fashion Week and bring what they learned backstage to their day-to-day life.
If Kourtney Kardashian and Gigi Hadid are anything to go by, bra tops are the only acceptable transitional piece into autumn/winter.
Hadid was cool as a cucumber hanging out backstage of the Giambattista Valli show in a plunging black bra top, a look she has been pictured sporting on her way to the gym.
Kourtney, who has three children, has been keen to show off her hard earned six pack at every opportunity, but left all her insecurities at the door at the Balmain after show party during Paris Fashion Week. So did her sister Kim.
Kylie Jenner wore an inexplicable white tube top at the Jonathan Simkhai show in New York, Instagram 'it' girl Rocky Barnes made a sports bra look stylish and Bella Hadid is no stranger to wearing beachwear as daywear.
Anyone who has been to a festival in Ireland over the summer knows that this trend has already filtered into 'normal' girl life.
But is it a step too far?
