A YOUNG fashion student's career is off to a winning start after she caught the eye of renowned designer Joanne Hynes.

Greta Lelyte (20), a second-year student at the Limerick School of Art and Design, was chosen by Ms Hynes as the overall winner of the Gillette Venus ProSkin Dress of Your Dreams competition on a wind-swept Sandymount beach in Dublin yesterday.

The young designer from Tralee, Co Kerry, took her inspiration from the world of Art Nouveau and is now preparing for a flood of requests from friends to design for them.

"I looked at the curves of the female body for the lines of the dress," she explained.

"Hopefully when I'm finished my course I'll work for a designer that I like, someone like Rei Kawakubo, or Irish designers like Una Burke or Joanne Hynes," she added.

It was her attention to detail that impressed Ms Hynes.

"I chose Greta's dress as it showed creativity, form and skill. The finish of the dress was to a high standard and I wish her all the best in her fashion career," she said.
