Roisin Murphy is one of Ireland's real present day style icons. She’s one of the few that I’d actually rate on an international level and she blows most performers out of the water. She’s the woman that inspires Lady Gaga for God’s sake. She shouldn’t need an intro.

She’s probably best known for her outlandish stage outfits with a major focus on voluminous shoulders and sleeves, structurally interesting hats and bold dimensional prints. But her everyday gear is just as cool, though sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference.

She’s a designer favourite and is muse to Dutch duo Victor and Rolf among others. She often dresses head-to-toe in a specific designer and subtlety is definitely not her strong point. But that’s exactly why we love her.

On a day-to-day basis she seems to play dress up and could be kitted out in full-on glittered Givenchy one day or dressed as a 1940s sailor boy the next. I love the fact that despite her amazing eye for fashion and her love of indulging in all things high-end, she doesn’t take herself seriously. There’s always an element of fun in her outfit choices and she’s never, ever boring…

Tips for getting Roisin Murphy’s style:

Commit fearlessly to bold outfits.

Do the opposite to what Coco Chanel said. Instead of taking one thing off, put two extra things on.

More is more.

Make a statement through your accessories.

Champion a designer head-to-toe. Don’t do anything by halves.

Indulge in vintage bags and belts.

Buy vintage trousers and tailor them to fit perfectly.

Harem pants are a favourite. Team them with your highest heels.

Clash prints but keep them in the same tones.

Wear hats. The crazier they are the better!
