Weather complaints aside, the Irish have a fondness for raincoats and coats for spring and the new Marks & Spencer spring and summer collection will feed a passion for Macs.

A ribbed and belted gingham raincoat (€125) in a lilac check from their 'Limited Edition' range (above centre) attracted lots of attention at the M&S new season showcase.

Traditionalists zoned in on the classics and the 'Limited Edition' buff-coloured trench (€125) comes with puff sleeves.

Mustard and lilac are two colours gaining traction and an 'Autograph' one-buttoned lilac wool coat (€210) and a €77 mustard coat (above right) were quickly identified as shoppers' favourites.

A €30 green metallic jumper (above centre) added a textural contrast to a floral, single-breasted jacket (€110) worn with matching wide legged trousers (€82).

Jo Hales, head buyer for womenswear, spoke about their new 'Curves' range in sizes 18-32. One of the best sellers to date has been a faux-leather biker jacket (€82) with stretchy jersey panels on sides and sleeves.
