'Sky is the inspiration for Saoirse's dress,' reveals stylist
The dress Saoirse Ronan will wear to the 90th Academy Awards tomorrow night has been inspired by "the sky" and 1980s-era Debbie Harry, according to her personal stylist Elizabeth Saltzman.
The celebrity stylist has been working with Saoirse for several years. Asked about her inspiration for tomorrow night's look, Saltzman said she and Ronan had been "talking about the sky".
"We're still in full-blown fabric and sketch mode so it hasn't been decided," she told fashion bible 'W Magazine'.
"It's just been narrowed down. I can tell you that a big part of the reference is the sky."
Obviously this doesn't make things a whole lot clearer for Ronan's fans now that the dress is completed; is it velvet black and covered in iridescent stars or powder blue? Either way, interest has been piqued.
The stylist said Ronan's looks this award season had been inspired by "Debbie Harry from the 1970s and 1980s".
The stylist also spoke about her close relationship with the 'Lady Bird' star. "She's the oldest, most wonderful soul that I've been fortunate enough to meet. I met her at 21 and she was far older than I was at 50, and wiser, smarter, and cooler."
In the past few years, Ronan has grown into her style and become more adventurous.
"Now at 23, she has the confidence to try things. Her attitude has changed. She's all grown up," Saltzman said.
