Raf Simons’ first campaign for Christian Dior has been released.

The Belgian designer was announced as creative director of the luxury label in April last year.

The 44-year-old showed his first line for the brand during Paris Fashion Week in September and now his hotly anticipated Spring/Summer 13 adverts have hit the web.

The shots are edgy, postmodern and have a somewhat surreal feel to them, with models in mannequin-esque poses.

The backdrop consists of stark white walls, interspersed with splashes of colour in the form of blue skies through square windows and brightly-coloured bunches of flowers.

With the dream-like background, the clothes almost appear not to be the focus of the campaign, but Raf still manages to make an impact with his creations.

Classic black, tailored suits contrast with colour-pop summer dresses and full-bodied skirts in rich orange and blue tones.

Floral prints are a recurring theme, appearing on skirts and livening up black blazers.

Accessories are kept to a minimum and consist mainly of elegant handbags and black scarves.

Also releasing its latest campaign is Mulberry, which picked a pastel-coloured underwater theme as its backdrop.

Much like Dior’s campaign, the advert has a surreal feel, featuring model Meghan Collison perched on giant, soft pink coral, with giant bubbles and baby blue rocks in the background.

“This season I wanted to focus on the girl as part of the landscape, rather than a character within it,” photographer Tim Walker, who shot the campaign, told WWD. “Thus the pictures of Meghan Collison become more like portraits. She was… able to hold your gaze, but almost otherworldly, she inhabits a dreamscape.”

The Mulberry adverts will break in the February editions of UK magazines Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar and US Vogue.
