Keep things straightforward with your hair this upcoming season and scrape your tresses back into a slick ponytail.

The classic, never-out-of-date look was the hairstyle of the season at the Autumn/Winter 11 shows. Marc Jacobs and Gucci favoured the no-fuss style, with their models gracing the runway with their locks pulled from their faces.

The hair trend screams a confident look-at-me look, and works on most face shapes, especially those which are heart shaped and oval.

A slick pulled back ponytail can let you really focus on mastering your make-up. Having no hair in the way draws extra attention to your face – so it gives you an opportunity to experiment with make-up shades. Whether you’re going for a simple, natural look, or bolder make-up, the slick ponytail allows you to mix it up.

The ponytail can be perceived as boring but this hair trend is anything but. You can mix up your parting, try a centre or side one for differing looks, and also experiment with how high your ponytail is on your scalp.

With minimal styling tweaks and even a few accessories, a ponytail can become sultry, futuristic or a little bit rock 'n' roll in seconds.

Another great advantage of styling your tresses into a ponytails means it is no-fuss. Ponytails are quick to do in the mornings and stay put all day. Also, if you’re planning a big night out, the style needs no extra attention - perfect for an evening of dancing and mingling.

To keep you ponytails looking sexy and mature, don’t expose any hairbands. Use a section of your tresses wrapped around the gathered hair.

Experiment with hair texture and accessories. Try crimping your hair or curling it into loose waves for a glamorous feel.
