Paul Costelloe’s triumphant return to London
Paul Costelloe’s AW15 show stood out on the opening day of London Fashion Week for his jewel colours, rich textures, constantly changing shapes... and for his impressive, celebrity-filled front row.
Respected style icons such as Yasmin Le Bon, Donna Air and Millie Mackintosh were joined by Saturday’s star Una Foden and former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Michelle Keegan, both wearing Paul Costelloe coats at the packed show in the ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria.
But it wasn’t the hotel’s proximity to Somerset House, HQ for London Fashion Week, that brought out the crowds.
There’s genuine interest in the Irishman’s return to the LFW and Paul treated the audience to visual eye candy with a myriad of silhouettes after finding inspiration across the centuries, from Tudor to pre-revolution Russia and the 50s hostess who likes her fit-and-flare, diamond-buckled dress to look sexy and sophisticated.
Costelloe isn’t banking on one type of customer, so he relished the opportunity to dress three generations.
The show opened with youthful, short, tiered dresses and coats in attractive, metallic, blistered jacquards in emerald and mulberry. Strapless dresses with metallic bodices over full, tartan wool skirts made the audience take notice.
The models marched to the beat of The Corrs singing ‘I Know My Love’ and Irish touches included a 3D, cream, crocheted wool band around the hem of a saffron herringbone, swing coat with asymmetric buttoning.
Among the guests was broadcaster Miriam O’Callaghan, who attended with her daughters Alannah, Clara and Jessica. They were there to support Jessica’s twin Georgia, who has been interning with Paul for LFW.
