Miss Thrifty's best bargains to beat the January blues
If like me you are feeling depressed, and who wouldn't be with this economy, weather etc, fear not because I have been working hard to find you the best bargains to help shake away the January blues.
Comfort eat at Panda Mama in Cork
Some killjoys will tell you that you shouldn't eat your feelings - this is almost certainly true, but I also suspect that some of the newer medical textbooks might contain a footnote about Panda Mama in Cork.
Not only does the restaurant have the word 'Panda' in the title (enough to cheer anyone up), you can also enjoy four courses for only €19. The deal includes Honey Roasted Char-Siu and I'm informed Bamboo is strictly off menu.
Run away from home to the Leixlip House Hotel, Kildare
If you and a companion head to the Lexlip House Hotel on a Thursday evening and spend €50 each on food and drink you'll get a free night at the hotel, but before you sell your house and abandon all responsibilities on a permanent basis, I should warn you this offer is available on Thursdays only.
For the sake of charity get married - Oxfam Bridal Show
People get married for all sorts of reasons, but to the best of my knowledge I've never heard of someone getting married for charity - until now.
The Oxfam Bridal Show is happening on the 25th of February and will be full of lovely bridal goodies donated by a raft of wedding designers.
The show takes place at Fallon & Bryne and will feature bridal couture donated by Vera Wang, David Brides, White and Rosetta Nicolini.
Dresses can be yours for anything from €200.
Tickets are €10 - phone 01 4780777 to book.
Get real therapy - Gloss Beauty Salon, Dublin
Everyone needs someone to talk to, but where do you turn to for help?
Once you've acknowledged you're struggling my advice is to choose wisely as in my experience even the best of therapists are only as good as their last haircut.
The Gloss Beauty Salon in Rathmines are offering a €10 blow dry for the month of January when you purchase any beauty treatment. Simply pour your heart out and then sneak a peek at how good you look in the mirror.... feel better ?
Clear the cobwebs - Coop Flea Market, Dublin
If your thinking of having a really good look at the 'inner you' - don't bother. Why not just brush your emotional clutter under the carpet like everyone else and head along to see some real clutter at The Dublin Flea Market this Sunday January 31st.
Taking place this Saturday at the Coop, Newmarket - the Dublin Flea runs from 11am until 5pm allowing you ample opportunity to have a real rummage around. If you're due a physical as opposed to a mental clear-out, you could even get yourself a stall. Expect lots of scented candles, bric-a-brac and lots of stalls selling self-help titles at knockdown prices.
Lose the baggage - Richard Allen
If any of the above weren't enough for you, simply lose the baggage.
Far from being your most amiable companion, your old handbag might be the very thing that is dragging you down. A new bag might just be the lease of life you need to wave away the Noughties. Richard Allen have discounts on a range of selected bags - look out for some excellent discounts by Jaeger.
