There was a time when trans-seasonal pieces simply linked cold weather to sunnier times. Now the concept stretches all year long and has taken on 'hero' status as we crave clever layering to add, and peel off, as required. Air conditioning and overheated work places influence how we dress more than we might appreciate.
Carolyn Donnelly's The Edit collection for Dunnes Stores is all about the art of layering with the aim of being "modern and relevant to the lives we lead", the designer says.
An exclusive preview of what is to come in the collection this season reveals different colour pops each month that sit comfortably with all of the basics like black, white, cream, grey and navy.
Upcoming stars in the collection in April are the leaf-print dress (right) with a print of a dirty blue offset by a strong orange with a loose shape. "I don't do anything that is skin tight, it's not me," says Carolyn. "I like clothes that you can put on and forget about."
