i need Trainers for walking and smart/casual

I'm looking for a new pair of trainers to go walking in. I've noticed the 'cool kids' around town are wearing sports trainers with dresses, etc, so I'm trying to find a pair that will double up – no Reeboks please.

It's all about multi-tasking fashion this summer and a pair of cool kicks is just the thing. The fashion pack has been lusting over retro runners for quite some time now. With a healthy dose of colour, comfort and kitsch, it's easy to see why.

The vogue for these styles, including printed plimsolls, 1980s high-tops and 1990s running shoes with pops of neon is going nowhere fast.

Nike's Flyknit Lunar +1 trainers, made of lightweight purple mesh, will add a flash of colour to any look (1 €160).

The Adidas by Stella McCartney collection combines the best of fashion and fitness. Wear the bright-orange pair with skinny jeans at the weekend or when working out (2 €140, net-a-porter.com).

People of a certain vintage, including myself, thought the days of Nike Air Max were long behind us, but the updated gold pair (3 €125.92) will give a pretty floral day dress just the right amount of attitude.

Another blast from the past is Gola, whose 'Betsy Blue' high-tops are enjoying a revival (4 €86.16, Asos), and Buffalo Originals are also enjoying a resurgence, with a Limited Edition's range including the 'Nylo' neon yellow pair (5 €85).
