Flimsy fabrics like sheer, chiffon, silk and lace epitomise feminine style. While they can be a little unforgiving, daring to wear doesn’t have to mean the potential embarrassment of letting it all hang out.

Sheer has fast become one of the more versatile trends on the catwalk - dresses up or down sheer is sexy but understated (if you do it right). Choose from dresses, skirts, blouses and even jackets but always keep it subtle, less is more.

Play with the fabric to create draping and layers that flatter your shape and size. A sheer blouse with contrasting underwear looks cool or you could opt for a panelled dress if you’re after something dressier. For a subtle take try a sheer sleeve or a bolero jacket.

In your 20’s…

For a fresh feel try a sheer blouse. Team with skinny jeans, ankle boots and a classic blazer to contrast the “risqué” fabric. Topshop have a gorgeous burgundy blouse and a striped t-shirt top in navy with sheer stripes - divine!

In your 30’s…

Try a black dress with some sheer panelling, Karen Millen have a really great one at the moment - just team with black t-bar sandals, an oversized clutch and go.

If full on sheer is your idea of a nightmare try a lined blouse with sheer sleeves - Oasis has a great range of blouses. Add cropped trousers and a cardigan for a smart casual look.
