I'm meeting my boyfriend's parents for the first time at a garden party in their house to celebrate their wedding anniversary. I'm in my early 30s and a size 10, any suggestions on what I should wear?'

A maxi dress is perfect! You'll look fashionable without flashing flesh, never a good look for meeting the parents. NW3 has a whimsical maxi dress with a conversational print of fly-fishing hooks on it. It'll be a great opener if you find yourself abandoned chatting to unknown relatives.

Copy Duchess Catherine -- the queen of dressing to impress the in-laws. She loves summer wedges, which add height but still look demure and are perfect for negotiating a grassy lawn.

Avoid Victoria Beckham style hooker heels. You're going for the warm and approachable, girl-next-door look, not wanton man-eater style.

Give spaghetti-strap maxi dresses a miss too, these are perfect for the beach but are too revealing for a garden party.

A pastel cardigan will help keep chills at bay, Oasis do a great range of shades.
