Q I'm going to the Galway races for Ladies Day and would love a stylish outfit to wear. What do you suggest?

A There is definitely a move away from the blingy and showy to the lady-like and demure at recent Irish race-meets, which is a welcome relief.

I would suggest you buy an Irish designer label - a surefire way to impress the judges. It should preferably be an impeccably tailored dress that flatters and compliments your figure and top the whole thing off with a killer hat -- so your support-act dress lets your headpiece do the talking.

Irish design duo Claire & Elizabeth fit the bill, www.elizabethandclaire.ie. Their dresses are exquisitely cut in a style not dissimilar to Victoria Beckham and Roland Mouret, but with much less eye-watering prices.

Galway-based milliner Suzie Mahony is sponsoring one of the prizes at this year's races and her creations are divine.

Suzie currently has a pop-up shop in the House of Fraser, Dundrum Town Centre, which is well worth checking out. Good luck!
