They came wearing Victoria Beckham, wardrobe homage to the celebrity designer they were about to meet in person.

And Victoria's band of stylish Irish customers didn't go home empty-handed yesterday because the opportunity to buy into the first drop of her AW12 collection proved too much for the 50 'invite-only' women in attendance at the Brown Thomas store.

"It was like a yard sale, it was like the first five minutes of the winter sale, with everyone dashing around grabbing hangers to try on things," said one dedicated VB fashion fan.

There was a mix of accents, from Dublin to northern Irish and a few Russian tones thrown in.

The ladies waited to chat with Victoria and ask about Harper, who, they were told, was asleep in an adjoining changing room.

But after a photo opportunity with Victoria, in which the ladies got to pose in groups of two or three, the real action moved to adjoining rails in the designer room, which had been stripped of other brands for the day.

Top of the ladies' list was, not surprisingly, the €2,450 linear structured black military coat with metal trim on the front and epaulettes, which she modelled all day.

For coat fiends, there was the 'boyfriend' coat in khaki wool and handsome leather trimmed collar, more pricey at €3,950, while a plain olive green military wool coat was on sale for €2,550.

The savvy fans who appreciated Victoria's innovations in bodycon dresses zoned in on the Polo fitted dresses made in a super slimming crepe.

Colour and a sense of fun remain inherent to her fashion vision, Victoria says and the Polo fitted dress in electric blue with maroon trim worn by teenage model Thalia Heffernan called out like a siren to VB aficiandos.

With a price tag of €1,695, it was marginally cheaper than the Polo striped dress in maroon and black with cheeky blue collar (€1,750) She says her new, more affordable range reflects her "fun side" and "channels my inner girl". The cheapest pieces included a V-neck slimline wool dress in mushroom at €615.
