What’s in a name? ‘Louise’ finally gets her very own dress
It’s not so much a vanity project but Louise Kennedy has finally given her name to one of her dresses.
We’ve had the ‘Amy’ corded lace dress – named after Amy Huberman wore it to the Royal wedding – and the ‘Kate’ jersey dress with cape-like sleeves which this season, feature fabulous pearl starburst embellishment.
The ‘Louise’ has strands of horizontal bands of silk that create a very flattering shape and it made its appearance towards the end of the designer’s impressively long, two catwalk shows yesterday.
A retinue of sleek models strode across the marble-tiled hallway of Louise’s Georgian, Merrion Square town house in 60 outfits comprising of one, two and three elements.
The ‘invite only’ AW14 collection show opened with daytime black jeans and a rabbit fur poncho and closed with a wedding dress.
In between, we were treated to opulent, architectural lines, feminine tailoring and cosy cocoon shapes that, according to Louise, “are all about enveloping a feeling of luxe.”
She played cleverly at creating volume at the top half of the body, using slimline separates on the bottom and the end result was a flattering and modern look.
There was an immediate reaction to the ‘Brooke’ emerald lurex cape (€1,495) which also comes in a cashmere blend, and Louise teamed it with the ‘Kylie’ lace shorts and ‘Rosie’ top in onyx lace.
Striking jewel colours were inspired, Louise explained, by a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the private jewellery collections at the Hermitage in St Peterburg and the catwalk hummed with vibrant amethyst and ruby, amber and emeralds, onyx and pearl.
And then there were her handbags, the ample-sized ‘Kennedy’, which debuted 12 months ago costing €1,495. Demand has been brisk, so this season Louise has introduced the bag in red and forest green and later this season she will introduce a new wedding collection.
We got a hint of her bridal vision with the ‘Karlie’ dress which closed the show. Prices start from €3,900 with three fittings to achieve a bespoke dress.
